The University Council is the strategic decision-making and supervisory body of the University
1. The University Council is responsible for
- Approve the strategy and development proposals of the Uni-CV;
- To approve the measures that ensure the articulated functioning among the organic units
- To approve the proposals for the creation, alteration, suspension or extinction of courses from the organic units;
- To approve the proposals for the creation, integration, modification or extinction of organic units in the University's structures;
- To approve the academic calendar;
- To propose amendments to the present Statutes and to submit them to the superintendence governmental body under the terms of the law;
- Approve the Regulations of the Uni-CV and ratify the regulations of the other collegial bodies;
- Approve the provisional management instruments, the annual plan of activities and accountability of the Uni-CV, namely the annual report of activities;
- Approving the attribution of an Honorary Doctorate degree to entities of recognized merit, either for their academic career, scientific work, benevolent intervention in relation to the Uni-CV or to Cape Verde, or any other justifiable reason for such a decision; and
- To pronounce on any matter that, not falling within the specific competence of any other Uni-CV organ, is presented to it by the Rector.
2. In addition to the provisions of the Rector's own competencies, the University Council may delegate regulatory powers to the Rector with a view to an efficient and effective management of the University.
